WHAT IS A BREAST CARE NURSE?

  • A registered nurse with specialist expertise in the management of patients with breast problems and /or requiring breast surgery

  • They are valuable members of the multi-disciplinary team looking after you

 

HOW DO I SEE A BREAST CARE NURSE?

  • Melbourne Breast and Endocrine Surgeons employ two highly experienced breast care nurses - Christine Gray and Meg McDonald

  • Christine or Meg will generally see or call all MBES breast cancer patients both before and after surgery, and at other times as required

  • Warringal Private Hospital employs addition bre4ast care nurses, available moo patients there
     

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A BREAST CARE NURSE?

  • Provide support and information to women with breast cancer

  • Link women in with appropriate support networks within the medical and wider communities

  • Help coordinate care within the multidisciplinary team

  • Care for men with breast cancer

 

WHAT CAN MBES BREAST NURSES, CHRISTINE AND MEG, DO FOR ME?

  • Answer questions

  • Give you emotional support

  • Provide written information and internet/web direction regarding your condition

  • Help with informing family

  • Provide specific information about breast reconstruction and/or breast prostheses

  • Visit you in hospital

  • Organise post hospital support as required

  • Help with post operative and wound care

  • Involve other practitioners such as physiotherapists when necessary

  • Co-ordinate your care
